I’m William Augusto, a software engineer and technical leader with more than 20 years of experience building products and platforms that need to work at scale.

I currently work as a Lead Software Engineer at Avalara, helping modernize an enterprise Property Tax platform. That ranges from moving legacy .NET Framework environments toward cloud-native .NET and Kubernetes architectures to making long-term decisions about product evolution, reliability, and maintainability.

My work sits at the intersection of distributed systems, software architecture, and practical execution. I enjoy turning complex problems into clear paths for teams by combining technical depth, product context, and close collaboration.

Experience that shaped my perspective

Before Avalara, I was a Staff Software Engineer at Neon, working on strategic banking products for customer growth, payroll lending, and credit cards. It was an intense fintech environment: distributed systems, Kafka, Kubernetes, APIs, observability, delivery quality, and technical leadership across initiatives involving multiple teams.

I also co-founded Message Center Tecnologia. Over a decade, I helped scale a communications and data-processing company for enterprise customers. I designed distributed systems that processed terabytes of data and delivered 60 to 70 million emails and SMS messages each month, along with configurable engines for hundreds of file layouts and SQL Server environments larger than 2 TB.

That combination of product, operations, and engineering still shapes how I think: the best architecture is the one that makes the next step safer, easier to understand, and more sustainable for the people who will maintain it.

Why I write

This site is where I turn experience into useful material: technical decisions, evolving systems, AI applied to software development, product, and the engineering details that usually get lost between one delivery and the next.

I write in Portuguese and English because good technical conversations cross borders - and because documenting the reasoning is one of the most reliable ways to improve the work.
